The Magic took another step in their mission to be world champions on and off the court as they teamed up with Frank Gay Services to surprise the Clark family with a new HVAC system on Thursday morning.

“We made a surprise appearance at Mr. Clark’s home to let him know that he’s receiving a new HVAC system,” said Magic community ambassador Bo Outlaw. “It’s a great time because right now it’s cool (outside), but everyone knows in Florida it’s going to get hot, so they’re going to need it. It’s a great thing that Frank Gay and the Magic are doing.”

Outlaw, STUFF the Magic mascot, the 321 Hype crew and members of the Magic’s staff joined forces with Frank Gay Services and Rebuilding Together and showed up at the Clark residence’s doorstep in Orlando to surprise them with the exciting news that they would be receiving a new system later in the day. They also gifted the Clark family tickets to the Magic’s upcoming game against the Chicago Bulls on Sunday.

It would be hard to find anyone more deserving of a new system. Clark proudly served in the United States Air Force for 13 years before health challenges, including diabetes, arthritis, and legal blindness, necessitated his early retirement. While he’s found love and support from his wife over the last 22 years, she too has dealt with her share of health challenges, overcoming breast cancer twice.

“We’re appreciative of our partnership with the Orlando Magic (and our ability to team up) to select someone in the community which we can serve,” said Frank Gay Services Market President John Colloca. “Especially someone like Mr. Clark, who’s a military veteran. I couldn’t think of somebody more deserving to help in their time of need.”

The Magic and Frank Gay Services announced a multiyear partnership last season. With a focus on the community, the Magic and Frank Gay Services developed a free throw promotion for an opportunity to assist those in need. For each free throw made during the Magic’s home games, $10 is donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. Through that program, Frank Gay Services presented a check for nearly $10,000 to the organization after the conclusion of the 2022-23 campaign. The Wounded Warrior Project’s vision is to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in the nation’s history through programs and services aimed at mental health, career counseling, long-term rehabilitative care along with advocacy efforts to improve the lives of millions of warriors and their families.

“It’s what it’s all about,” said Outlaw of the Magic’s partnership with Frank Gay Services. “You want relationships with people who have like minds. They have a like mind about being a great provider, but also being a great provider in the community. So, we all work here, but we also all live here. So, when we can provide assistance to the community where we live, why not? This is a great opportunity for us both to come out in the community and do some great things.”

This is just the latest step in the Magic's continuing commitment to the Central Florida community. Recently, the team distributed a third set of grants to 13 local nonprofits totaling $510,000 through the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation (OMYF). That set of grants (winter grant cycle) were distributed in surprise visits in February to organizations in Orange, Seminole, Osceola and Brevard counties assisting at-risk youth in Central Florida. The organizations each received a bronze basketball keepsake and an OMYF novelty check with the amount they were granted at each of the visits.

At the beginning of the season, the Magic announced $1 million in grants would be distributed this season through the OMYF in three ways – a summer grant cycle, a winter grant cycle and microgrants. The first set of grants (summer grants) were announced in August through surprise visits as well. The Magic also awarded nine microgrants to smaller, up-and-coming local nonprofits to assist them in growing their organizations. A final group of microgrants will be announced in April.

Each year, the Magic gives more than $2 million to Central Florida by way of sponsorships of events, donated tickets, autographed merchandise and grants. At the heart of the Magic’s charitable efforts is the work done by the OMYF.
